Hors-d’Œuvre Éditions is an independent publishing house founded in 2023 by designer and artist Alexandra Denat.

Everyday artifacts

A living, intuitive practice where each series investigates form, material, and traditional gesture, blending artisanal know-how with a contemporary , blending artisanal know-how with a contemporary approach.

Objects are envisioned as everyday artifacts at the intersection of utility and freeform design. Subtle irregularities are embraced as part of the handmade language.

Each piece is crafted in our studio or in collaboration with specialized artisans.

Artist and designer, I am based in Nîmes, dividing my time between my artistic practice and creative direction work in Paris.

After a background in industrial design, I felt drawn to renew my approach to objects through material exploration and the act of making. From 2020 to 2024, I immersed myself in close collaboration with artisans, exploring materials and the act of making in order to develop crafted series rooted in their gestures. Since 2022, my research has focused on ceramics and glass in my own studio, nourished by an exploration of spontaneous movement inspired by Japanese Hitsuzendō.

My artistic work explores the rhythm of the trace and the surrender that emerges through repeated movement, free from intention. In 2024, artistic and craft explorations converged in my first glass series, Vine, created in collaboration with blown glass workshops. Glass, fluid and unpredictable, continues this exploration of spontaneous movement in both space and material.
